Blog Notes

After a bit of tinkering, I've changed the blog to one of the new, wider format templates. I'm not convinced about the colours yet, there is still some tinkering to do.

A Walk Around Leeds

Red

Today I went for a walk around Leeds with the Samsung DSLR. It felt strange at first. For weeks I've been carrying the Leica M2 with the strap wrapped around my wrist and a light meter in my pocket - and nothing else. Now I was packing around a camera bag with a telezoom and the M2 as a safety blanket. Funny that, there was a time when shooting with a handheld meter would have felt risky and an automatic camera would have been the safety blanket. As always when starting something new I felt a little flutter in my stomach, a frisson of fear and excitement which settles down after the first couple of frames.

Shadow and Reflection

At this time of year the low sun reflects off the facades of these new metal and glass buildings and beams bounce around from building to building.

After using a 35mm lens and manual focus for so long it's a refreshing novelty to come back to a zoom lens and autofocus. I have to say the GX10 performed well, for all my complaints about it in poor light, the kit zooms (18-55 and 55-200) focussed quickly and positively.

Shadows

The kit zooms are surprisingly sharp, used a couple of stops down and a high contrast subject like this railway bridge wall shows them at their best.

Stella in the snow

The Hole of Horcum, North York Moors
On Christmas Day we drove up to Saltersgate and Stella (my stepson's dog) took me for a walk in the fresh snow.
